A 9-year-old boy was struck by a car Tuesday night after he ran out into traffic leaving the Fishtown Horribles Parade on Western Avenue, according to Gloucester police.
Police said the child was transported by the Fire Department's Rescue Squad to Beverly Hospital. He was released after being treated, hospital officials indicated Wednesday.
Police said Wednesday they are not pursuing charges in the accident, but officers are still investigating.
According to police, two officers on the Boulevard rushed to 61 Western Ave. after receiving a call that a car had struck a child at 8:05 p.m. Tuesday.
Officers spoke with the driver of the Volkswagen sedan who hit the boy; he told police the child ran out into the road, stopped for a second, and tried to run back. He said it happened so quickly, he didn't have time to stop.

The driver was traveling away from the city on Western Avenue at about 10 mph, according to police reports.
A man called police Tuesday at 9:26 p.m. from Centennial Avenue to report that a tour bus carrying one of the bands for the Horribles Parade had broken a mirror off his car.
An officer on patrol on Centennial Avenue noticed a man yelling profanity out of the rear window of a black car Tuesday at 5:25 p.m.
Officers stopped the car on Western Avenue, had the man step out of the vehicle, and officers noticed he had a bag of marijuana. They confiscated it and handed him a civil citation for possession of less than an ounce of the drug.
Police responded to the Heights of Cape Ann for a report of a woman trying to break into an apartment Wednesday at 1:52 a.m.
According to police, the woman told officers she had been locked out of the apartment by her boyfriend and tried to get back in by climbing onto the balcony. Police knocked on the apartment door and no one opened. They told the woman she would have to find another place to stay for the night.
At 3:49 a.m. Wednesday, a youth came into the police station and said that another youth had threatened him.
He said that he and the other youth had gotten into a fight at Newell Stadium after the kid had threatened one of his friends, Officers told the youth to let them know if the other youth made any more threats.
A Prospect Street resident called police Wednesday at 8:43 a.m. to report that 26 oxycodone pills were missing from her purse after she was admitted to Addison Gilbert Hospital.
She said that, when she was admitted to the hospital, the staff counted the medication and locked it away. When she returned home and checked the vial herself, she found that 26 pills were missing.
Officers responded to Addison Street at 6:48 p.m. Tuesday for a report of kids launching bottle rockets into the street. Police searched the area, but could find neither the youths nor fireworks.
An officer responded to 7 Gilbert Court for a report of a man shooting off fireworks at 7:25 p.m. Tuesday. Police spoke with the man, who agreed to stop lighting any fireworks.
Officers transported an intoxicated man from Shepard Street to Addison Gilbert Hospital at 6:11 p.m.
